The Death of Emmeline Vance
She’s felt death all day. She’s felt like dying for much longer than that, but this is different. She can feel it down to her bones, has since the moment she woke up, and she tries not to let it show, but she’s looked half dead for a month now. Everyone knows why, they just don’t want to talk about it. They do their best to avoid her eyes and she’s fine with that.
She can feel it. She wonders if it’s because she’s become so intimately acquainted with death. Like a polite courtesy from death. You’re going to die, Emmeline Vance, just thought you ought to know.
